About the museum
The Fantoni family is documented at Rovetta, in the upper Val Seriana, as a group of woodcarvers from the 15th century. Between the 17th and 18th centuries the workshop, run strictly by the family, received commissions throughout the Bergamo and Brescia territory, producing sacred and secular furnishings, sculptures and architectural designs.
The building complex, L-shaped with a portico, loggias and an inner courtyard, was formed by joining two blocks. It is a well-preserved testimony to the workplace and home of a Lombard art workshop of the 17th and 18th centuries. As early as 1751 the historian Francesco Maria Tassi described a visit there.
The museum was established and regulated in 1968, with the setting up of the Fondazione Fantoni, wished for by Giuseppe Fantoni. The collections include drawings and models in wood and terracotta, works, family portraits, paintings from the 16th to the 18th centuries, period furnishings and an educational section on woodworking tools. The Foundation also holds a historical archive and a small library.
