About the museum
In the historic centre of Nicolosi, on the slopes of Etna, the house museum faithfully reproduces a typical rural dwelling of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, built around an inner courtyard in line with local traditional architecture. It is a tribute to the perseverance of the farming community, which made fertile a land repeatedly threatened by eruptions.
In the kitchen you can see the stone hearth, terracotta crockery, jars for oil and moulds for cheese. The bedroom has a wrought-iron bed with a straw mattress, simple wooden furniture and hand-embroidered linen. A large collection of historic farm tools includes ploughs, scythes, yokes for oxen and instruments for the grape harvest and the care of olive trees.
The house museum is part of the Rete dei Musei comunali della Sicilia promoted by ANCI Sicilia and is close to the Museo della Pietra Lavica.
