About the museum

The Museo della Civiltà Solandra, run by the Centro Studi per la Val di Sole, collects evidence and tools of the traditional material culture of the valley. It is located in Malé, in the building of the former Pretura (magistrates’ court) in Via Trento.

The route reconstructs the main moments of life in the past and the ways of making a living, above all farming, milk processing and timber. There are sections on the agro-silvo-pastoral system, on crafts and on the rural domestic environment, with the original tools of the carpenter, the blacksmith, the farmer, the stock breeder, the weaver and the coppersmith, and reconstructions of the workplaces.

Among the rooms are the stùa, the most important room of the Solandra house, which comes from the Val di Rabbi, and the kitchen, reconstructed with great care. The museum also has a multimedia section.
