About the museum
The museum was founded in 1968 by Giuseppe Šebesta to document the customs, dress and traditional activities of the people of Trentino. It is housed in the former Augustinian monastery of San Michele, founded in 1145 and turned into the seat of an agricultural school in 1874.
The permanent route, known as “Quaranta stanze per l'uomo delle Alpi” (Forty Rooms for the People of the Alps), presents agriculture, livestock, the water mill, the forge, the foundry, wrought-iron work, beekeeping, woodland and sawmilling, tiled stoves, ceramics, costumes, music and religious life.
The museum houses the Archivio provinciale della tradizione orale (Provincial Archive of Oral Tradition), a section of the museum since 2002, a library with a media library, and an educational service active since 1994, which offers school routes, family activities, workshops and events.
