About the museum
The municipality of San Benedetto in Perillis created the museum as part of efforts to revive local traditions and culture, with a mainly educational purpose. The route is divided into two sections: the prehistory section and the anthropological section, which shows the daily life of a farming family through the grain cycle, the olive oil cycle and weaving.
Each tool is placed back in its functional context, in reconstructed rooms, so that the object is understood together with its use. Visitors, especially students, can try out tools and techniques themselves, for example sitting at the loom, using prehistoric drills to bore stone or lighting a fire. The museum is housed in the premises of a restored former 18th-century olive mill.
