About the museum
The Museo della Pieve e Tesoro del Duomo is housed in the 14th-century complex of the old canonica (parish house), next to the Duomo of Gemona del Friuli. It was opened in 2006 at the wish of Monsignor Gastone Candusso, thirty years after the earthquake of 1976 that devastated both the building and the right aisle of the Duomo.
The Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta, built between about 1290 and 1337, preserves its façade with the large sculpted San Cristoforo, the rose window and the Epiphany group; the bell tower, begun in 1341, was destroyed by the earthquake and rebuilt. The name of the museum refers to the treasury of the Duomo.
