About the museum
The museum, known as MAP, is housed on the upper floors of Palazzo Milesi, Gromo’s former town hall, a 15th-century building dating from 1456, bought by the Comune from the Milesi family in 1924. Its rooms recall the production and trading tradition of edged weapons, which made the village famous in the Renaissance.
The route, renewed and re-arranged, displays a private collection of edged weapons dating from the 15th to the 17th century: halberds, infantry swords, cup-hilted swords, daggers and knives bearing the maker’s marks of the Gromo swordsmiths Scacchi and Ginami.
The museum also holds the documentary fund of the Donazione Valerio Milesi (1323–1800), important for reconstructing ironworking in Gromo in the 15th and 16th centuries, and the Archivio comunale (municipal archive), with sources from the 11th to the 20th century. The Sala Angelini contains about thirty original drawings by the engineer-architect Luigi Angelini, devoted to the architectural details of Palazzo Milesi and of the territory of the Alta Valle Seriana (Upper Seriana Valley).
