About the museum
The Comparative Anatomy Collection of the University of Bologna is considered one of the best-known collections internationally for the size and rarity of its holdings. It is part of the University Museum System (Sistema Museale di Ateneo) and is located in Via Francesco Selmi.
The display presents about 1,500 specimens, organised in three routes. The first, experimental and the first of its kind in Italy, was set up in 1988: the specimens can be observed and touched, with labels also in Braille, so it is accessible to blind visitors too. Some evolutionary themes, such as the relationship between teeth and diet, are developed precisely through these pieces.
The second route is devoted to the evolution and main anatomical features of vertebrates. The third is an educational itinerary designed above all for university students and retains the original character of the collection.
