About the museum
The first core of the Anthropology Collection of the University of Bologna dates from 1908, when the chair of Anthropology was established, entrusted to Fabio Frassetto. The collections were initially housed in Palazzo Poggi and in 1933 were moved to Via Francesco Selmi, into larger spaces.
During the 20th century the collection was directed, among others, by Elsa Graffi Benassi from 1947 and by Fiorenzo Facchini from 1971 to 2005. The new display and exhibition areas were opened in 1991.
The collection is part of the University Museum System (Sistema Museale di Ateneo). According to the official website, it is currently closed for extraordinary maintenance work.
