About the museum
The museum was opened in 2006 to commemorate Camillo Golgi, physician and scientist, Nobel Prize winner for medicine, born in Corteno on 7 July 1843, a few metres from the exhibition venue. It is housed in the village’s former town hall, belongs to the network of museums of the Valle Camonica, and was created in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pavia.
The route tells how Corteno became Corteno Golgi, presents the scientist’s main discoveries, including in the field of malaria, and offers a view of 20th-century medicine. Period scientific instruments, photographs and original documents accompany the reconstruction of a medical clinic from the last century and the replica of Golgi’s histology laboratory.
