About the museum

The Museo della Resistenza di Valsaviore is located in Cevo, in the upper Valle Camonica. It aims to promote and enhance the historical and cultural heritage of anti-fascism and the Resistance. It reconstructs the events that took place in the Valsaviore between 1943 and 1945, and in particular the events that led to the destruction of the village of Cevo on 3 July 1944, through a documentary and archival heritage.

The route begins with an entrance and preparation space. Rooms 2 and 3 illustrate the museum's mission, the valley and its people between the two world wars, the Garibaldini and the partisan struggle, and the price of freedom, with the fallen, civilian victims, deportees and internees. Videos with testimonies and symbolic objects accompany the visit, such as the peasant's rake, the emigrant's suitcase, the partisan's rifle and the chair to which the young partisan Giovanni Scolari was tied for his execution.

The central space combines exhibition and information functions, with about forty seats and a screen for projections. Two galleries present the Valsaviore environment and the places of the Resistance. Rooms 4 and 5 tell the story of the burning of Cevo, with a large backlit image of the destroyed village, enlarged pages of the diary of Giacomo Matti and testimonies on monitors. The museum also has a library and offers activities for schools.
