About the museum
The ethno-anthropological museum of San Mauro Castelverde, in the heart of the village, was founded in 1981 at the wish of the municipal administration of the time, but above all thanks to the commitment of the residents, who donated all the objects now on display. Its aim is to promote local culture and traditions and, in particular, the traditional working activities of the area.
The rooms show everyday objects linked to the cultivation cycle of wheat, olive and flax, together with many tools of local craftspeople: looms, old shoes used for harvesting wheat, and blacksmith’s tools. Part of the collection consists of traditional costumes and household items donated by the embassies of European Union countries, reflecting the exchanges that arose through the municipality’s twinning arrangements.
