About the museum
The museum was opened to the public in August 1995 by the Associazione Ossimo Ieri. It documents rural life in a mountain setting in Ossimo, Borno, Lozio and the rest of the Valcamonica until just a few decades ago, with a way of life very similar to that of the Alpine valleys of northern Italy.
The collection covers more than five hundred square metres and includes tools, furnishings, farm and carpentry tools, household objects such as churns, sieves and presses, fabrics with lace and embroidery, and photographs of school groups and families from the early 20th century. Among the objects are also reliefs of the statue-stelae of the Copper Age.
The route is organized into nineteen sections, including agriculture, art and sacred art, the shoemaker, the blacksmith, carpentry, the kitchen, the bedroom, the cellar, the casera (dairy building), the stable, women’s work with spinning and weaving, masons, carpenters and miners, the school, games and pastimes, war, and the technology of the 1950s. The museum is part of an educational itinerary devoted to the collective memory of the local communities and offers guided visits and routes for schools of all levels, as well as a virtual visit on the website.
