About the museum
The Etna ethnographic museum is housed at the Pro Loco (local tourist association) of Linguaglossa, in Piazza Annunziata, and presents itself as a collection centre for natural finds and artefacts from the Etna area. According to sources it can be visited all year round, together with the exhibitions dedicated to the town.
The route is divided into eight rooms. The natural history rooms hold specimens of flora, including a mycological collection, a rich collection of taxidermied animals, some of them endangered species, and a butterfly collection that includes Anthocaris damone, typical of Etna. There are also samples of prehistoric and recent lava and volcanic bombs. The display cases of everyday life feature objects made of lava stone, latches, funnels, horseshoes and tools for working grapes. A library holds around 960 volumes.
