About the museum
The museum holds the archaeological collection assembled in the 19th century by the counts Mauro and Eugenio Faina, comprising Etruscan finds (ceramics, bronzes, jewellery), Greek finds (black- and red-figure vases) and Roman objects, with a rich coin collection. The collection was donated to the Comune di Orvieto in 1954, and in 1957 the Foundation for the Museum was established.
The rooms also house the Museo Civico Archeologico di Orvieto, with Etruscan and Roman sculptures. Among the best-known pieces are the decorations from the temple of the Belvedere, the cippus with a warrior's head, the “Venere” of Cannicella and two monumental sarcophagi.
The museum is located in Piazza del Duomo, in the Palazzo Faina, and is presented as a family-friendly museum, with a route designed for children.
