About the museum
The museum descends from the Museo Didattico di Montecchio Maggiore, created in 1922 by Giuseppe Zannato in the town's primary school with natural history, archaeological, historical and military materials. In the 1960s that institution closed, and the natural history and archaeology collections formed the core of the future civic museum of natural sciences and archaeology.
In 2003 the surviving military and historical material was restored and exhibited on the initiative of an association of enthusiasts, giving rise to the Museo delle Forze Armate 1914-1945. After several temporary locations, in 2014 the museum moved to its current site in Via del Lavoro, thanks to an agreement between the Municipality and the association. Since 2021 it has collaborated with the Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra in Rovereto.
The exhibition route follows the events of the two world wars through thousands of relics and includes a park of military vehicles, a park of artillery and two themed rooms on aeronautics and the navy, which are also linked to the local area. The museum also has a library and an archive, which is currently being catalogued.
