About the museum
The museum is in Rocchetta a Volturno, in the upper Volturno valley, in an area close to the Gustav Line where, after the armistice of 8 September 1943, the Italian army reformed as the Italian Liberation Corps. The exhibition building dates from 16 December 2010 and is linked to the Associazione storico culturale 1943-1944.
The museum is affiliated with the Istituto per la Storia del Risorgimento Italiano, collaborates with the Società Italiana di Storia Militare, the Army General Staff and the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare), and is under the patronage of the University of Molise.
The exhibition hall covers over 900 m² and houses original uniforms, tunics and accessories of the armies of the two world wars, organised in thematic sections. The “technical room” (sala tecnica) displays over 150 weapons of the 20th century, a section described as unique at national level. There are also hangars with vintage aircraft and military vehicles, and a library with books, periodicals and archive documents. The museum regularly hosts book presentations, conferences and scientific seminars.
