About the museum
The museum is dedicated to the saint of Laconi, Ignatius (1701–1781), and is attached to the parish church of Saints Ambrose and Ignatius, in the historic centre of the town. A visit to the saint’s places normally includes his birthplace, the parish church with its baptistery and mosaic chapel, and the small museum.
The collections hold a silver reliquary containing a bone from Ignatius’s hand, his rosary and the original documents of the canonisation process, together with the original canvas portraying him in 1781. The display also includes sacred silverware from the 16th and 17th centuries, 16th-century vestments, statues (some of them Spanish, from the 16th century), two 17th-century oil paintings, jewellery and terracotta finds from the Roman and pre-Roman periods, a coin collection and objects brought back from the missions in Africa and Australia.
