About the museum
The museum is in Solda, at the foot of the Ortles, in the former primary school building next to Hotel Post. It tells the story and culture of the Ortles area and the development of tourism that began after the first ascent of the summit, a process spanning about a century.
Among the themes of the route are the mountain huts, the pioneers who helped the village grow and life in the valley. One special section is devoted to the First World War (1915–1918), and another collects minerals from the Ortles and the surrounding areas.
Most of the collections were gathered, restored and funded by a group of volunteers led by Konrad Knoll.
