About the museum
The museum was founded in 1979 on the initiative of the Associazione Museo Vallivo della Valfurva and of the teacher Mario Testorelli, with the aim of telling the history, culture and traditions of the valley. The first home was the oratory of the Disciplini di San Nicolò; in 2002 the collection was moved to the Sant’Antonio site, and in 2003 the new site was inaugurated and named after Testorelli, who had died the year before.
The display recreates real settings and atmospheres: the room and kitchen of a farmhouse and the workshops of craftsmen, including carpenters, shoemakers, ropemakers and blacksmiths. Other sections illustrate domestic, agricultural and pastoral activities.
The route includes a working mill for grinding rye and a wood-fired oven for baking bread. The objects on display also recall costume, school, devotion, the mountains and mountaineering, and the First World War. The museum is part of the Valtellina museum network.
