About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Renato Ratti, an innovator of Barolo who introduced the concept of cru, classified the vintages and presided over the consortium of Piedmontese wines. In the 1970s Ratti had set up an ethnographic museum in the old cellars of the Monastero dell'Annunziata, at Marcenasco, a hamlet of La Morra.
The monastery, used as a primary school until the 1970s, was restored in an operation costing over two million euros, financed by the municipality of La Morra, the Fondazione CRC and the Società Agricola Ratti, on the initiative of Pietro Ratti, Renato's son. The new route was inaugurated on 25 October 2025.
On the ground floor, accessed from the square, panels in Italian and English, documents, photographs, maps and videos from the documentary on Ratti tell his life together with the history of La Morra and the Langhe, with a section on the history of the monastery. In the old cellars, reached from the courtyard below, are objects from the original ethnographic museum and a multimedia section with a dynamic map of the crus and the brand marks of La Morra's wineries.
