About the museum
The museum is housed in the palazzo overlooking Piazza Umberto I in Monforte d'Alba, once the residence of Colonel Paolo Domenico Martina, an officer of the Savoy army and a protagonist of the Risorgimento, who left the house to the Municipality so that it would benefit the community. The civic library is also located in the same building.
To mark the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, the Municipality created a new display that enhances the colonel’s legacy; he remained active in Monforte even after the birth of the new state. Martina pursued interests in natural history, music, literature and agriculture, to the extent that he founded a school of agriculture and gathered several collections, some of which have survived to the present day and are displayed in the museum’s rooms.
Since 2013 the museum and the library have been run by the volunteer association MO.MA.Li (Monforte Martina Libri).
