About the museum
The museum is dedicated to the Granatieri di Sardegna, the oldest infantry unit of the Italian army. The idea of gathering the regiment's memories in one place dates back to 5 March 1903, when several officers proposed bringing together the brigade's memorabilia, documents and historical testimonies at the “Ferdinando di Savoia” barracks, in order to preserve its traditions.
The museum is located in the Santa Croce in Gerusalemme military complex, a short walk from the basilica of the same name, in the Esquilino district. The route covers some fifteen rooms with Italian and foreign weapons, photographs from the First World War, flags and personal objects donated by grenadiers or their families. On the first floor is a salone d'onore (hall of honour) dedicated to Casa Savoia.
The museum is run by the Italian Army and preserves the memory of the campaigns in which the regiment took part.
