Solo exhibition by the artist Yuan Gong, curated by Liliana Liao: video, performance and multidisciplinary works reflect on identity, representation and social change, imagining the world as a stage.
About the museum
Palazzo Merulana arose from the collaboration between the Fondazione Elena e Claudio Cerasi, established in 2014 to safeguard a rich collection of modern and contemporary art, and the cooperative CoopCulture, chosen as management partner. The building at Via Merulana 121 was the former public health office. It had long remained an urban gap and was returned to the city after a restoration lasting more than five years.
The collection comprises around ninety works of Italian painting and sculpture between the two world wars, with a core dedicated to the Scuola romana and masterpieces by Giacomo Balla, Mario Sironi, Giorgio De Chirico, Antonio Donghi, Mario Mafai, Antonietta Raphaël and Giuseppe Capogrossi, along with works from other Italian contexts of the same period. The route covers 1,800 square metres over four floors: on the ground floor the Sala delle Sculture with portico and garden; on the second and third floors the Salone and the Galleria, with the most important part of the collection; and on the fourth floor the Attico for cultural activities and events, with a terrace on Via Merulana.
On the ground floor, free of charge, are also the CafeCulture café and the BookCulture bookshop, which together form the Culture Concept Store. The palazzo also hosts temporary exhibitions, events and an exhibition of immaterial art in augmented reality.
