About the museum
The museum is run by the Gruppo Archeologico di Bruscoli, founded in 1989 to study the mountain around the Passo della Futa from a historical and archaeological point of view. It grew out of the discovery, in the 1980s, of an ancient route between Florence and Bologna, believed to date from Roman times and well preserved in some stretches. With the cooperation of the municipality of Firenzuola, a permanent educational exhibition was set up, opened in August 1994 in the premises of the former elementary school in the village; in 2009 the rooms were renovated and enlarged.
The collection is organised in three sections: geo-archaeological and palaeontological finds, materials from rural and artisan traditions, and Second World War remnants linked to the Gothic Line, which ran through these mountains. The archaeological finds come from excavations along the ancient road and from the remains of the medieval castle of the Alberti counts; other objects were donated by private individuals. Documents, models and reconstructions help visitors understand the history and identity of the area.
