About the museum

Venturino Venturi was born in Loro Ciuffenna on 6 April 1918, and in 1980 he chose to return to live permanently in his village, where he built the house that now houses the Archivio Venturino Venturi. From the 1980s he donated 93 works, including sculptures and drawings, to the municipality on condition that a museum dedicated to his work be created: he wanted to leave his native town a lasting record of his artistic path.

The museum was inaugurated on 23 June 1993 on the ground floor of the town hall, in Piazza Matteotti. Over time it has been extended and reorganised several times, and today it is laid out in seven rooms, from A to G, arranged around the main themes of the artist’s research: the years between Florence and Milan, war, the gallery of portraits of friends and men of culture, the origins of Venturino’s art with the figure of his mother and the theme of Pinocchio, and his relationship with the sacred.

On the occasion of the centenary of his birth the route was renewed, with new materials in Italian and English and a catalogue of the permanent collection available in bookshops. The museum organises lectures, concerts and temporary exhibitions and regularly welcomes schools from the area.
