About the museum
Palazzo Corsini al Parione, on the Lungarno Corsini, is regarded as a rare example of Florentine Baroque. In 1649 Maria Maddalena Machiavelli, wife of the marquis Filippo Corsini, bought the building from Grand Duke Ferdinando II de' Medici. The palazzo consists of three main wings arranged around a large courtyard and is still a private residence.
On the ground floor is an artificial grotto. A grand staircase with neoclassical statues leads to the piano nobile (main floor), where a sequence of frescoed rooms with original furnishings follows, including the Galleria Aurora, the Salone and the Sala da Ballo (ballroom). A loggia is decorated with frescoes by Alessandro Rosi and Bartolomeo Neri. The Salone del Trono has an upper gallery with ancient statues and 18th-century busts, and a ceiling frescoed by Anton Domenico Gabbiani in 1696.
The palazzo houses no museum, but a collection of decorated historic rooms and original furnishings. According to the national tourism portal, the private residence can be visited by appointment from Monday to Friday; the palazzo is also used for receptions and events.
