About the museum
The Museo Novecento is the civic museum dedicated to Italian art of the 20th century and is housed in the spaces of the former Spedale delle Leopoldine in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, in the centre of Florence. It was created to present the city's twentieth-century collections to the public on a permanent basis.
The historic core is the collection of Alberto Della Ragione, donated to the city after the flood of 1966, which includes works by artists such as De Chirico, De Pisis, Severini, Morandi, Mafai, Guttuso and Casorati. To this is added the bequest of Ottone Rosai, which came to the Comune di Firenze in 1963 by the wish of the artist's widow and brother.
The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, educational activities and workshops. According to the home page of the website, the permanent collection is temporarily closed for re-display.
