About the museum
The Palermo Museum is a historical and sports museum devoted to the history of Palermo Football Club. Telling the story of the rosanero (pink-and-black) club was part of the project to develop the identity of the new company founded in 2019. The museum was inaugurated on 1 November 2020, the 120th anniversary of the club’s founding, inside the Renzo Barbera stadium. The project was coordinated by the journalist and historian Giovanni Tarantino, who is now the head of the museum.
It was made possible by the fans: with an international appeal, the club collected unique and hard-to-find memorabilia made available by enthusiasts and collectors from around the world. The display follows a thematic route through the history of the rosanero colours and the different faces of fandom, with historic shirts, photographs, newspapers, audiovisual content and artworks.
Among the sections are the collection of historic shirts, the club’s chronicle, a model of the stadium and a subbuteo table with miniature players in period shirts, virtual reality headsets and multimedia areas, a panel by the artist Carlo Cazzaniga on the evolution of the shirt, the Coppa Italia di Serie C won in 1992–93, and an area devoted to the Hall of Fame, with the eleven players and the coach chosen by fans as the most representative. The museum also offers a tour of the stadium’s spaces.
