About the museum
The Baia Underwater Park protects the remains of an ancient Roman city that sank below sea level because of bradyseism, the slow ground movement typical of the Campi Flegrei. It is run by the Parco archeologico dei Campi Flegrei and forms part of the Baia marine protected area.
The visit takes place underwater or at the surface along four main sites: the Villa a Protiro, the Terme del Lacus, the Secca delle Fumose and the submerged nymphaeum. Activities include guided tours, scuba dives and water sports such as sailing, canoeing and swimming; dives are organised by authorised diving centres.
Finds recovered from the submerged city are displayed in the Museo archeologico dei Campi Flegrei in the Castello di Baia. The park website offers an interactive map of the dive points, a virtual tour and an aerial video of the bay.
