About the museum
The Pharmaziemuseum in Bressanone has been open to visitors since autumn 2002. The collection documents over four hundred years of pharmacy history and includes instruments for producing medicines, such as tablet presses, pill cutters and suppository moulds, as well as jars, medicines and packaging for everyday use.
Among the objects are containers in wood, glass, majolica and porcelain dating back to the seventeenth century, a seventeenth-century cabinet for storing vegetable drugs, and a display case with a glass grille for the most precious pieces. Some rooms are lined with wood in the style of old stube (traditional wood-panelled rooms).
The route is organised in thematic sections devoted, among other things, to materia medica, medicines, the laboratory, pharmacists, art and the library. The Wunderkammer collects rare objects that once decorated pharmacies, such as a crocodile, an armadillo's head and a fragment of Egyptian mummy.
