About the museum
The Pinacoteca comunale “Andrea Alfano” is named after the painter and poet from Saracena, Andrea Alfano (1879–1967). It was inaugurated on 1 May 1985, together with the Biblioteca comunale, thanks to the donation of the founding members of the Associazione “Sestium”, which was active in Saracena from 1952 until around the mid-1970s. The initial holdings numbered 75 works.
The new venue, in the rooms of the Palazzo Mastromarchi in the historic centre, was inaugurated on 7 June 2017. The collection now comprises over 230 paintings, drawings and sculptures by Italian and foreign artists of the 20th century, including Renato Guttuso, Giulio Turcato and Ernesto Treccani.
