About the museum
The gallery is named after Carlo Contini (Oristano 1903 – Pistoia 1970), one of the leading figures of 20th-century art in Oristano. It is housed in the ancient Hospitalis Sancti Antoni, a former medieval hospital which today also houses the Biblioteca comunale and the Terracotta centre.
The most important nucleus of the collection comes from the donation, in 1969, of more than fifty works by Giovanni Battista Sanna Delogu, known as Titino, with the aim of creating a gallery of Sardinian painting. This fund enriched the civic collection, which is now presented in a permanent section.
The permanent section includes works by Giuseppe Biasi, Antonio Ballero, Mario Delitala, Melkiorre Melis, Stanis Dessy, Foiso Fois, Maria Lai and other Sardinian artists, as well as Contini himself. Since 2023 part of the route has been permanently devoted to the painter, with about twenty works arranged in chronological order and organised by theme, from sacred art and public commissions to Sardinian traditions such as the Sartiglia. A separate space hosts temporary exhibitions.
