About the museum

SanGimignano1300, described by its promoters as a Centre for the Arts, is a museum and exhibition devoted to the miniature reconstruction of the medieval town of San Gimignano. It aims to make the art, history and values of the town known through a dynamic route aimed at a wide and varied public, recalling its architectural and artistic creativity and its cultural tradition. Even during the setting-up works it became a major tourist destination for visitors from many countries.

The exhibition route is designed to give visitors emotions and information about the history of San Gimignano during its period of greatest development and splendour. All the works on display were made exclusively by hand, in the same rooms that now house them permanently. The galleries tell of the Via Francigena, the city of the beautiful towers, the contrade, everyday life in the town, the inside of a tower, palace life, the surroundings outside the walls and the convent of San Francesco.

The centre also promotes the potential of craftsmanship through cultural and educational initiatives, and offers activities for schools, such as treasure hunts, as well as special events and team-building proposals.
