About the museum
The Antica Segheria Veneziana is in the hamlet of Sega, in Terragnolo, a short walk from Maso San Giuseppe on the road to Terragnolo. The building dates from the 18th century and belongs to the municipality, which restored it to highlight the cultural identity and historical heritage of the area. The whole sawing system has been put back into operation, showing how a tree trunk was cut into boards and beams.
The visit includes a demonstration of how the sawmill works, followed by the ethnographic museum on the first floor. Visitors can see the water wheel, a large centuries-old disc of white fir used for dendrochronology, period photographs and explanatory panels, as well as the tools of woodcutters and carpenters. The route follows the wood from felling in the forest to the making of boards and beams.
The sawmill is open to the public for educational and demonstration purposes; guided tours are available.
