About the museum
The Roman theatre stands beside the Porta Praetoria, along the Decumano Massimo, and is one of the most iconic ancient monuments in Aosta. It dates from the first half of the 1st century AD and is a masterpiece of High Imperial Roman architecture.
The massive façade wall, 22 metres high, rises in a very striking landscape, surrounded by the peaks that tower over the city. The building stood in a district of Augusta Praetoria devoted to entertainment, where comedies, farces and mimes were performed.
Today the theatre also hosts events and performances. Entry requires the combined ticket “Aosta Archeologica”.
