About the museum
The Sciliar area is one of the great historic regions of traditional costume in the Tyrol, where traditional dress is still alive. The municipality of Castelrotto is known for the richness and variety of its precious costumes, which are considered among the most important parts of the community's cultural heritage.
The Associazione museale di Castelrotto and the Associazione per la tutela del territorio dello Sciliar have always worked to document, study and present the costumes that are still worn. After special exhibitions in 2011, 2015 and 2016, and preparatory work in 2014, a two-volume monograph on the costume of Castelrotto was published in 2016.
In 2019 the Museum of Costumes opened in the Ansitz Lächler, creating a point of reference for the documentation and promotion of costumes in the municipality. Through sets of exemplary costumes, individual parts and photographic documents, it illustrates the history, development and present of traditional dress. Alongside research, the museum offers information, training initiatives and outreach activities.
