Archaeological park of Agrigento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, with the Doric temples of ancient Akragas, the via sacra and the Hellenistic Theatre.

About the museum

The Valle dei Templi is one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy and one of the best preserved of classical Greek civilisation. It corresponds to the remains of ancient Akragas, the original nucleus of today’s Agrigento, and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997.

The Park comprises a vast archaeological and agricultural landscape: the temples along the via sacra, including the Tempio di Giunone and the Tempio della Concordia, the Hellenistic Theatre, the Porta V and the Roman houses of Agrigentum, with mosaics and painted plaster. One part of the area, the Giardino della Kolymbethra, can be visited with a dedicated or combined ticket.

The managing body is the Parco Archeologico e Paesaggistico della Valle dei Templi, which also takes care of landscape protection and research projects. Next to the Park, the Museo Archeologico Regionale Pietro Griffo holds finds from the territory and can be visited with an integrated ticket.
