About the museum

Farm Cultural Park was founded in 2010 in Favara, in the province of Agrigento, from the idea of recovering seven abandoned courtyards of the historic centre, the so-called Sette Cortili: a group of small houses, Arab-style gardens and cultural spaces among the residents’ homes. The project became an international example of bottom-up urban regeneration, transforming a neglected neighbourhood into a place of art, training and community life, without public mandates or large budgets.

In Favara the spaces include the Sette Cortili, the “Kasba piena di arte” (Kasbah full of art), the Human Forest, a forest grown inside a ruined building, and the Riad Farm, a secret garden dedicated to Marrakech. Over time installations, exhibitions, artist residencies and educational programmes, including for children and young people, have been offered.

The organisation has opened other venues in Mazzarino (Corso Vittorio Emanuele II), in Palermo (Museo delle Città del Mondo, near the Quattro Canti) and in Agrigento (former San Vito prison). The Favara venue is currently closed: the courtyards and houses are being transformed into a cultural, social and residential space where artists, students and researchers can live and work for limited periods.
