About the museum
The S'Urbale village stands on a hill in the Mandrolisai, in the municipality of Teti, with a view over the valley of Lake Coghinadorza and the valley of the Tirso. It has about fifty circular huts built mainly of granite blocks, in some cases incorporating natural boulders for stability. The roofs were made of poles and brushwood, and clay and cork were used for insulation, a technique that distinguishes it from other nuragic villages.
The huts show occupation from the Middle Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age. The so-called “room F” (hut F) yielded about a hundred objects and seems to have been used in a single phase, in the 9th century BC, before being destroyed by fire. The site was first excavated by Antonio Taramelli in 1931; excavations resumed in 1981 with Maria Ausilia Fadda. A reconstructed and furnished hut is displayed in the Museo archeologico di Teti.
