About the museum
The Vittoriale degli Italiani is a group of buildings, streets, squares, gardens, watercourses and an open-air theatre that Gabriele d'Annunzio had built from 1921 at Gardone Riviera, on the shore of Lake Garda, with the architect Gian Carlo Maroni. The complex was conceived in memory of the life of the poet-soldier and of the deeds of Italians in the First World War.
At its centre is the Prioria, the poet's last residence, opened to the public in 1975. The monumental park of about 10 hectares contains several places to visit: the Museo d'Annunzio Eroe, the Museo d'Annunzio Segreto, the Museo L'Automobile è femmina, the Mausoleo, the MAS 96, the Regia Nave Puglia, the Giardino delle Vittorie, the Anfiteatro and the Auditorium.
Today the Vittoriale is run by the Fondazione Il Vittoriale degli Italiani, which also looks after the archives and the library, organises events and educational programmes, and celebrated the centenary of the start of the work in 2021.
