About the museum
The painter Jānis Selga was born in 1913 into a farming family, the youngest of eight children. He mastered seven musical instruments, worked at various jobs and helped with filming. In autumn 1945 Selga entered the J. Rozentāla mākslas skola (J. Rozentāls Art School), but because of domestic circumstances he soon returned to his father’s home. After founding a family in 1952 he began building his own house, “Senpili”, where he spent all the rest of his life.
Today “Senpili” has a small exhibition house and the painter’s memorial workshop. Selga painted mainly in oils; his subjects are landscapes, still lifes, portraits and the theme of the riflemen.
