About the museum
Alūksne Castle (Alūksnes pils), with eight guard towers, was built in 1342 on the largest island of Alūksne Lake. The exhibition “MARIENBURGAS astotais brālis” (The Eighth Brother of Marienburg) is designed as a legendary chant whose effect rests on music and sound: the eighth tower remembers everything from the castle's beginnings to the present day. The author team includes the dramatist Lauris Gundars, the composers Sigvards Kļava, Mārtiņš Brauns and Artūrs Maskats, the lyricist Ojārs Vācietis and the design office H2E; the chant was recorded by the Latvijas Radio koris (Latvian Radio Choir).
