About the museum

Until 1944 the Holy Trinity Church stood here – one of the first Lutheran stone churches in Europe and one of the first stone buildings in Jelgava. In 1574 Duke Gotthard Ketler ordered a new stone church to be built, which was consecrated on 25 May 1615. The tower was added to the church in 1686–1688, and in 1862 it was raised.

After the war the church was not rebuilt, but the tower survived and became the most visited tourist attraction in Jelgava. Modern exhibitions with the motto “Dubultā realitāte” (Double Reality) have been set up in the tower, where the history of Jelgava can be explored interactively; on the ninth floor there is an art exhibition and a viewing platform.
