About the museum
The Skaistkalne parish local history centre “Novadnieki” was established in honour of the memory of the local history enthusiast Pēteris Lukašēvics. Here you can see the historical records of the Skaistkalne area that he collected — chronicles, books, evidence on the manor, material from the church archive and objects, as well as collections of household objects and photographs.
An information panel in the centre covers the karst sinkholes of Skaistkalne and karst processes, which explains the properties of gypsum and how the sinkholes form. After the visit, visitors can go with a guide to the karst sinkholes.
