About the museum
More than forty years ago, the culture commission of the municipality of Mauren called on residents to donate items from daily life, home and work. Over the decades this grew into one of the largest cultural heritage collections in the region, with objects from all areas of life from 1900 onward.
In 2006, when the collection reopened in the multi-purpose building, it was reshaped as a themed museum under the name “MuseumMura”. However, by its own account, the institution never fully met internationally recognized museum principles. The municipality therefore launched a process of realignment under external management in 2022, which concluded in 2023 with a strategy paper approved by the municipal council. Since then the institution has been called “SammlungMura”.
The aim of the realignment is for interested visitors to continue to be able to view the cultural heritage objects, but now with clear educational focus areas and objects that can be experienced vividly, rather than lifeless display pieces. The collection is located on the upper floor of the municipality’s multi-purpose building in Schaanwald. Selected objects can also be viewed online at sammlungen.li.
