About the museum
The idea of the exhibition is the Royal Road (Karališkasis vieškelis), which from the 9th to the 14th centuries wound through Aukštadvaris from Vilnius via Trakai to Birštonas and belonged to one of the protected lines of defensive castles. At the entrance the visitor is greeted by a fragment of the Royal Road, which leads into the exhibition and turns into a section of stone paving.
The exhibition conveys the hilly, lake-rich and wooded landscape of Aukštadvaris: more than 250 hills are counted in the surroundings, and here, on the highest hills of the Dzūkija Upland, the Verknė and Strėva rivers rise. An interactive display presents the most striking pairs of hills and hollows and the Velnio duobė (Devil’s Pit).
