About the museum
The idea of founding a museum in Palanga arose at the beginning of the 20th century, when the “Palangos bičiulių draugija” (Palanga Friends' Society) was founded in 1907. In 1966 a department of the local history society began operating under the teacher Emilija Adiklienė, and the first exhibits were collected. The idea of founding the museum was revived at conferences on Palanga's heritage in 2008, and on 29 August 2013 the municipal council decided to establish the Palanga Resort Museum and house it in the historic “Anapilis” villa. At the beginning of 2014 museum staff began work, and in 2016 exhibitions and other events began in the modernised museum.
The exhibition invites visitors on an interactive journey through time, from the origins of Palanga's history to the present day. Four thematic halls tell of prehistory, the legends of Birutė and Kęstutis, the counts Tiškevičius and the architecture of the resort, the botanical park, the Baltic Sea and amber, and the Šventoji settlement.
