About the museum
The library-museum was created on the model of the presidential libraries of the United States. It was initiated by the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas (Vytautas Magnus University) community and the Kaunas city municipality together with Valdas Adamkus himself; the institution operates as a public establishment.
The exhibition links the life of Valdas Adamkus – from his work in the United States to his presidency – with the history of 20th-century Lithuania, the national revival and the restoration of independence. Objects from the legacy of Adamkus and his companions, letters, documents, books, photographs, video material and works by artists are on display, and exhibitions, lectures and book launches are held.
