About the museum
The fire brigades of today’s Municipality of Mersch can be traced back to 1839. For a long time, six independent brigades existed side by side in the municipality. The museum aims to preserve and convey their history.
The Pompjeesmusee was officially opened on May 4, 2024 and is housed in the former fire station in Moesdorf. The Municipality of Mersch owns the building and provides the infrastructure; the Entente of the municipality’s fire brigades runs the museum and offers guided tours.
The exhibition mainly shows equipment that was in use in the municipality over the past two centuries, including historic pumps, a ladder cart and a mid-20th-century fire engine, as well as uniforms, helmets and other equipment. The museum also collects photographs and documents on the history of firefighting in the municipality and accepts them as loans or donations.
